Music Videos

 Andrew Goodwin's Theory:

He says that there's 5 key characteristics that are commonly found in music videos, that lead to them being successful in demonstrating an ideology while also promoting the star.

Richard Dyer's star theory:

There are 3 main aspects that make up a star:

1. The star as construction- A manufactured image.

2. The star as commodity- A product designed to make money.

3. The star as an ideology- The central paradox.

The star also have to be ordinary but also extraordinary while also being present and absent with their fans.

Ariana Grande- Thank you, next

Goodwin's theory is represented here through the amount of intertextuality. The entire video is a reference/ copy of 4 very popular 2000s films: mean girls, 13 going on 30, bring it on and legally blonde.

As well as this, Dyer's star theory is represented here as Ariana Grande is discussing her love life and the complications of her love life which shows her as being ordinary and relatable to her audience but also we know that she is extraordinary due to her extraordinary singing voice and acting abilities.

Olivia dean- Nice to Each other

https://youtu.be/VI0NDsh2b8k?si=ljErq6NGTIP6TUZv

Dyer's star theory is represented here as Olivia dean presents herself as an ordinary individual, someone who is not searching to fall involve and is happy by themselves. This reflects her normality outside of fame as celebrities are often expected to be in relationships and surrounded by romantic drama. however it also shows she's not only ordinary but extra ordinary due to her singing voice.

Beauty Advert

I have chosen to make the perfume and the name of the brand of perfume the main focal point of my advert. This is because it instantly grabs the audiences attention to what the product itself is.

This advert would work because it involves little information therefore is less likely to overwhelm the audience.

The slogan used is made to be memorable and enticing to the audience as they are less likely to forget it and this will help them to remember the perfume.

Following on from this, the bold sans-serif  purple name of the perfume instantly catches the audiences eye and allows them to know and remember what the perfume is.

SHSG Sixth Form Advert

When putting together my SHSG advert, I had to consider LIAR in each of my shots. LIAR stands for:

Language, industry, audience and representation.

I had to consider what composition of shots I would present for example, close ups or portraits. Then it was important that I thought about what I was trying to promote with the pictures that I had taken, in this case I was trying to promote SHSG and their outstanding sixth form. The audience that I was trying to target was potential sixth formers and their parents who wanted to join the SHSG community. Finally, I had to consider how I wanted to present sixth form life. Personally, I wanted to create an uplifting and inspiring advert that made people want to come and be apart of this fabulous sixth form. I presented this through the use of action shots that show peoples true authentic selves in their sixth form life.

When taking the pictures, I experimented with different camera settings. I explored the manual setting however, this was rather difficult since I was in control of everything. Next, I tried the portrait, landscape and close up settings. This allowed me to get a variety of different shots on my camera that could represent SHSG in a variety of different ways. I did try the action mode, however since I was not taking any fast paced action shots such as paparazzi, I did not need to use it. Each aspect of the camera allowed me to take a variety of shots to help keep my advert interesting and eye catching for those looking at it and potentially wanting to join the sixth form.

Finally, it was my first time using photoshop. Therefore, I had a variety of different skills that I needed to learn in order to make my advert look representable. I learnt how to use layers in order to keep my advert looking smart and detailed. I also learnt about the tool bar and how each tool works. I used the paint bucket tool in order to fill my entire background with the iconic SHSG green colour. I also learnt how you can lock layers that you do not want to edit anymore. I also learnt how sometimes it is actually easier to crop images on separate documents first and then to place them onto the image. Each of these new learnt skills allowed me to create this inclusive and eye catching SHSG sixth form leaflet that will hopefully gather a love for the school and what it has to offer for those considering to join the sixth form.
